Hello Helmut,
it is to support the Side Menu (nav:side) with an automatic Active Side Menu.
Please see: http://E-H-S.wikidot.com/incl:Active-Side-Menu and the Side Menu, where I started to implement it.
I have also thought of different Display Versions, with and without frames, depending on the colour schemes of pages and the available space (width) in the Side Menu.

The idea was to place this into a new page (to be included) in the Side Menu, to make editing easier for updates and maintenance, as some Side Menus already have a long and involved structure.

You can use the hammer navigator - Scrollbar like usable with the include from the module site:
http://modules.wikidot.com/include:3 (Scrollbar code) as I have used it on the calendar-sunday site:
month-mini:_template whichcalls the previous-next (:module:include:3).. and the output of it on a "normal" single page:
Month-Mini:2012-07

Could be this helps?

I just posted the description of this spur-of-the-moment idea here yesterday evening before retiring to bed.
When I looked at it this morning I already found some results here!
;-)

THANKS again Helmut!

http://csi.wikidot.com/package:2/noredirect/true shows the effect….

I have used this very well on one of the community (play-ground?) pages…

Why is the Talk(Active) button flashing? That's so 1997 and horrible.

Sorry, Rob, this was an "invention" from Kenneth at the appeal ( restore) site - to see and be aware of the existing talk page. ( otherwise with a non exiting talk: page the "talk" link is "standing").
I am not sure what is better - the old view or this is useful for me….

Perhaps "macros" as that is not used elsewhere in Wikidot.

Yes, this is a very good name to be not always snippets - which were at the beginning more an extra explanation site for wikidot source tags..

1) I have changed the quicktabs to a table..
2) i ave changed the quicktabs to a collection of flip/flop tags. - but THIS WORKS NOT ON SIDE MENU ( iftags only working on the main page or _template).
3) I copied the "old" quicktabs ( table) to "quicktabs-sidemenu" - extra - this works (without iftags) on side menu.

I have found them in tne top bar menu..

Yes: not obvious and in the wrong place :)

I know that the live template is there but it's not being used as well as it could be to help the user. Perhaps I'm biased because I use dataforms for everything, but I do think they would help here.

Fine to see you here !

I have introduced the code-blocks because of I always had to re-enter any complex new table from beginning on again and again and again - even with Kenneth helping extensions it is not as easy as I would like.

Now i can copy the code on an easy way …

I think also about code-blocks building a diagram ( in Wikidot source!) like a dataflow really to include it in a table (which is copied from code-blocks..)
examples: http://helmuti-pdorf.wikidot.com/diag:testa#toc6

There are some thoughts in my mind which are not really finished.

Another point - there is a "live template" already in use.. .( because of the tags seting buttons..) .
I have not seen these set tags button… am I blind?
ignore the last entence - I have found them in tne top bar menu..

On the listing of includes you might want to categorize them with tags otherwise the list will get very long and be difficult to look through.

A few thoughts
RobElliottRobElliott 20 Aug 2013 22:06

I like the idea to bring many possible includes into one place, it's a good initiative and I will add some includes over the next few days. I've just had a couple of sessions looking at the site today while on some long train journeys, but I have a few thoughts as a result:

  • I don't like the use of the word "files". Files has a specific meaning in Wikidot and with this site you are not creating files, you are adding code snippets to a page which are then included via cross-site includes. Better to use "snippets" or something similar.
  • After adding a page title into the box to create a new include the user is presented with a blank page editor with no indication of what to enter. It would be better to use a dataform in the live template so that a user can fill it in on the page. Same with the code-block page. I know that most/all users who will add includes will be very experienced but I had to think about what you might be expecting.
  • You have put the set tag code into the top menu bar. Really the set-tag syntax should go into the live template and be available via buttons directly on each page. Having to go to the site navigation menu to set page tags is not intuitive UI.

If you need me to build the last two items let me know.

It's a great start, well done.

Just found the above text in the DRAFT and revived it!

The reason it was in the drafts was that I hadn't finished the post and was thinking of coming back to it later. I have several suggestions for improving the site and will post these later. I have deleted the post.

On the snippets there is the used code ( called "code:x..y..z" ) which calls by include ( and explains it) another "_default" page in the background ( not category "code") , and explains exact this in the one code page…

Perhaps we should do such 2 page usages also?
